Job Stress Self-Assessment Checklist
Use this to check organizational factors rather than individual diagnoses.
Use this to check organizational factors rather than individual diagnoses.
It is difficult to identify the causes of job stress that require organizational improvement by assessing only the individual employee's stress level. The work environment must be examined together, including workload and time pressure, relationships with colleagues and managers, roles and decision-making structures, and compensation and organizational culture.
Check before using the data
This data is not a test intended to diagnose an individual's mental health status or to screen for high-risk individuals.
This is a practical HR checklist designed to identify recurring burden factors within the organization and to review work environment improvements and EAP operational directions.

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's guidelines for preventing health hazards caused by job stress also present management procedures for identifying job stress factors, establishing a prevention plan, and evaluating and supplementing the implementation results.
🧭 How to Use the Job Stress Self-Assessment Checklist
STEP 01
We provide guidance on the purpose of the evaluation and the scope of utilization of the results.
Before starting a survey or inspection, please inform the members of the following.
- Purpose of identifying job stress factors
- Scope of utilization of individual responses and team-based results
- Person in charge who can view the results
- Anonymous or non-identifiable aggregation method
- Organizational improvement procedures scheduled after inspection
The purpose of the operation must be clearly explained to prevent anxiety that the response results may be used for performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, promotions, or transfers.
STEP 02
Enter your current status for each question.
Review the questions in the areas of job requirements, relationship conflicts, organizational structure, compensation, and organizational culture, and enter the response that is closest to your current work environment.
It is important to focus on the following organizational factors rather than evaluating a specific employee's disposition or patience.
- Whether the workload and schedule are consistently excessive
- Is the role and work priority clear?
- Whether you can receive support from managers and colleagues
- Whether evaluation and compensation standards are predictable and fair
- Is it an atmosphere where members can voice problems and opinions?
STEP 03
Aggregates results by team or department.
Rather than classifying employees by individual scores, we examine team and departmental averages and areas that consistently appear high.
For example, teams with a high burden in the job demands area can prioritize checking workload, staffing, deadlines, and break structures. If the burden is high in the areas of relationship conflict or organizational culture, they can also examine communication with managers, meeting methods, and procedures for presenting opinions.
STEP 04
Record the improvement plan.
Record the following for each identified factor.
- Items to improve first
- Specific improvement measures
- Department in charge and person in charge
- Scheduled execution date
- How to guide members
- Scheduled date for re-inspection
It is important not to simply store the evaluation results and close the process, but to connect them to actual improvements in the work environment.
STEP 05
We will check again after a certain period.
After corrective measures are implemented, the same areas are re-examined, and changes in the results are recorded. In cases where the work environment has changed significantly, such as due to organizational restructuring, personnel changes, or an increase in workload, additional verification may be considered separately from the regular inspection.
📊 Here's how to use the results
The results displayed in Excel are not criteria for determining mental health status or the presence of a disorder. Individuals with high scores should not be classified as problematic personnel; instead, they should be used as a reference to identify areas of relative burden within the organization.
👥 Signals to check together as a team
Check the following actual tissue signals along with the Excel results.
- Repeated overtime and holiday work
- Work and emergency response are concentrated on specific personnel
- Increased errors, omissions, rework, and schedule delays
- Increased intention to take sick leave, be absent, or change jobs
- Increase in internal team conflict and cynical expressions
- An atmosphere has formed where it is difficult to express opinions to the manager.
- Vacation, rest, and work handover are not smooth
If multiple signals appear simultaneously within the same team, rather than focusing solely on individual stress management, you must examine workload, staffing, roles, schedules, and managerial communication together. You can also check the organizational management system standards in the related article.
⚠️ Precautions when using Excel data
- This material is not a medical or psychological diagnostic tool.
- This does not refer to the same test as the official Korean job stress measurement tool.
- The results are not used as the sole basis for performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, promotions, or transfers.
- Restricts access to individual responses and health-related information.
- When individuals can be identified through results, such as in small teams, carefully determine the scope of disclosure.
- We prioritize identifying recurring organizational factors and work environments over high-scoring individuals.
- Manages improvement managers, implementation schedules, and re-evaluation plans along with evaluation results.
- Specific matters regarding industrial health, labor relations, and psychological counseling may require review by relevant experts depending on the organizational situation.
💬 How can organizational assessment and EAP be connected?
The results of the job stress assessment can be used as basic data to determine the direction of EAP operations.
EAP counseling should be presented not as a mandatory measure for employees, but as an optional support channel available when needed. If work structure and organizational culture are identified as the causes, it is appropriate to pursue individual counseling alongside organizational improvement.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. If the score is high, can it be considered a high-risk individual for job stress?
Scores alone cannot determine an individual's mental health status or risk level. The results should be used as a reference to identify areas of relative high burden within the organization and work environments requiring further review.
Q2. May I provide individual results to the administrator?
It is recommended to manage individual responses to the minimum necessary extent and utilize anonymized or de-identified team or departmental results for organizational improvement. Access rights and the scope of utilization for the results must also be provided prior to the inspection.
Q3. If the results are high, do I just need to guide them to a consultation?
While counseling is an important support measure, if the cause lies in excessive workload, role conflict, evaluation methods, or organizational culture, improvements to those factors must also be made.
Q4. What should be done if the team is small and individuals can be identified?
You must consider de-identification methods, such as not disclosing results from small organizations where individuals could be identified separately or presenting them integrated with the parent organization.
