If I receive EAP counseling, can the company know the details of the counseling?

Hello. I am considering using the EAP counseling program because I heard that my company offers it.

I would like to seek counseling due to a combination of recent work stress and personal concerns, but I have one concern. I am wondering if the company will be able to find out what I discussed if I apply for or receive counseling.

Is there any possibility that the details of the consultation will be forwarded to HR or management, or recorded in performance reviews or attendance records?

I feel that counseling is necessary, but I am hesitant because I am worried it might become known to my company. I would like to know how confidentiality is actually handled by those who have used or managed EAP counseling.
